Economic Development
It is the civic and moral responsibility of our City leaders to put people back to work.
With a City-wide unemployment rate of greater than 10%, and double that in Bayview/Hunters Point and the Tenderloin, it is critical to the re-vitalization of District 6 and the City of San Francisco that we put people back to work. Economic development leads to job growth.
As your District 6 City Supervisor I will strongly support:
- FEE DEFERRALS TO JUMP-START MAJOR DEVELOPMENT AND CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS
- JOB TRAINING AND APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMS IN PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS TO PROVIDE OUR YOUTH WITH A CLEAR PATH OUT OF POVERTY AND INTO A GOOD PAYING JOB
- MORE CITY PURCHASES OF COMMODITIES AND SERVICES BE FILLED BY LOCAL SUPPLIERS
- A MORE ROBUST BUSINESS INCUBATOR OFFICE TO ASSIST ENTERPRENEURS IN COMMERCIALIZING INNOVATIVE IDEAS
- LOW-INTEREST REVOLVING LOAN PROGRAMS AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT GRANTS
- MICRO-LOAN PROGRAMS FOR MINORITIES AND WOMEN
- REVENUE NEUTRAL NET RECEIPTS TAX WITH A PAYROLL/WAGE DEDUCTION TO REPLACE THE CURRENT PAYROLL TAX
- NO INCREASE IN THE HOTEL TAX
I propose a long-term strategic plan for the creation of more Business Empowerment Zones of Innovation to encourage the creation of start-ups and re-location of existing companies to our City and District 6. This will target growth industries such as high-tech, bio-tech, and clean-tech.
